Scholaris: A Canadian Shared Institutional Repository  Service

Development of a national shared institutional repository service (Scholaris) is currently underway!

The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) and University of Toronto Libraries are working together on this project, in collaboration with the Shared Repository Infrastructure Advisory Committee (SRIAC), regional consortia, academic libraries, repository practitioners and communities of experts.

Scholaris will use the open-source repository software DSpace. Scholars Portal will provide reliable technical hosting, security measures, monitoring, and technical support, with the potential for integrating digital preservation and other services/workflows, as beneficial to participating organizations.

The service will be available to CARL and OCUL member institutions, as well as eligible non-member research organizations across Canada, starting with an Early Adopter program of a limited number of institutions.

Early Adopter Program

Scholars Portal is looking to identify cohorts to participate in an Early Adopter program.

We are seeking interested institutions from the following categories:

  • No existing repository
  • Existing DSpace repository
  • Non-DSpace migrating repository

Institutions from across Canada are encouraged to apply. Read more about the Early Adopter program, including requirements for participation and expected outcomes of this phase.

UPDATE: Our first two cohorts have been selected. We are now accepting applications for future cohorts (beginning in 2025).

If your institution is interested in participating, please complete the following form. If you would like to learn more about the program or discuss participation before formally submitting this form, please reach out to the Scholaris team by emailing info@scholaris.ca.
